Hand Sewing Excellence

Our leather craftsmen diligently produce our products one-at-a-time in their workshop located in the artisanal quarter of downtown Tokyo.

Currently, 90% of products are mass-produced using sewing machines, but our hand sewing is performed carefully as the state of every stitch is checked.

Our hand sewn stitches are also different from a sewing machine’s because they are sewn with two threads instead of one, making the stich many times stronger. The disadvantage is that it takes a lot of time and effort, which means each craftsman can only produce one item per day.

NEW ANTIQUE

However, the strength of the stitches that pierce into the leather is an art that can only be expressed through hand sewing. When compared with machine sewing, the difference is obvious.

Even if a stitch breaks, fine repairs can be done by hand so that the item can still be used for a long time. That’s why we take pride in hand sewing all our products.

Our brand is fundamentally different from other mass-produced leather brands which use sewing machines.

The reason why Hermes bags are many times more expensive than luxury brands like Chanel, Vuitton, Gucci, etc. is because they are all hand sewn by leather craftsmen.

When threads are hand-sewn, they can be stitched with different amounts of tension.
Using that skill, work on curved items can be finished in 0.1mm increments to produce a three-dimensional appearance.
The finished products have a feeling of real solidity and fit the hand perfectly.

NEW ANTIQUE

Our method of passing two threads through each hole to tie the stitches more tightly is laborious, but it creates a special stitch that sewing machine cannot achieve.
(This traditional process is also known as the “Hermes Touch”.)

NEW ANTIQUE follows the same production methods as Hermes by hand sewing one stitch at a time.
